TIPS FOR FIRST TIME SMARTPITCH USERS

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

SMARTPITCH IS THE ONLY HANDS-FREE, LIVE & AUTOMATIC SPEED MEASUREMENT APP IN THE WORLD THAT GIVES YOU "FREEDOM OF LOCATION".

Unlike radar, where you must line up exactly behind the pitcher or catcher, you use SmartPitch anywhere you watch or manage the game. For coaches, using SmartPitch from the dugout during games is the natural choice.  For fans and parents, use SmartPitch from your folding chairs behind the foul lines or in the stands where you watch the game.

But with so much Freedom, first time users may be unsure how to get started.  Here are some tips and recommendations.

You cannot hold the phone in your hand.  Use one of the Tripod Hacks shown in this blog post or use a tripod to hold the phone motionless.

Suggestions for GAME MODE

  • Place smartphone anywhere in the Green area. Avoid the grey area.

  • If game is underway, attach SmartPitch to a pole at the mouth of the dugout. See Red Star in the diagram

  • If pitching from mound during team workouts, put tripod on 1st or 3rd base. That’s an easy spot to mark with the movable crosshairs. See Yellow Star in the diagram

  • For hitting, attach camera to a fence safe from batted balls, such as dugout, or the fence running behind the foul line. See Blue and Red Stars in the diagram

  • After you've got the hang of this, have fun using the full power of SmartPitch by placing the camera anywhere in the green areas on the diagram

Suggestions for PRACTICE MODE -- Bullpen or BP:

  • Start with camera set up 15 ft to the right  & 6 feet behind the rubber or home.

  • Any distance to the side from 9 feet to 30 feet works, and back 0 to 30 feet works.

  • In dim or poor light conditions, try to set up more to the side, 15 feet or more, and not far back, not more than 3 or 6 feet.

  • For RHP, camera must be on Right side. For LHP, on the Left side

  • Same for Bullpen or Batting Practice set up
