Pro-Level Tunneling & Timing
Training Tool

SmartPitch® is excited to preview its major new Pro-Level Tunneling & Timing pitcher training tool.
With this new Tunneling & Timing tool, Smartpitch® scientifically charts the batter’s timing challenges for every pitch SmartPitch® measures by showing the EARLIEST the batter can detect and evaluate the pitch, and the LATEST the batter can wait to decide to swing.
The SmartPitch® Tunneling and Timing training tool works to get you more outs at all speeds and doesn’t require you to throw 90 mph. It works for both young pitchers and elite athletes and pros. Make it your training partner as you work on getting more outs by practicing and improving your tunneling and making the timing limitations your batters have to live with YOUR advantage as a pitcher.

Tunneling Examples
#1 CURVE SAME PATH AS FASTBALL
This sample chart from SmartPitch® shows 3 pitches: a 75 mph fasball in blue, a 75 mph fastball in green and a 67 curveball in red.
The ball is moving from right to left toward home.
The eyeball icons mark the EARLIEST the batter can evaluate the pitch, here around 27 to 30 feet from the rubber.
The batter icon shows the LATEST the batter can wait to swing, around 38 feet from rubber.
The batter evaluates the speed and trajectory of the ball in the short interval between these two markers.
Batter sees one 75 mph fastball at knee level - blue line. Then he sees another at the waist - black line. Then when he sees the curve - red line -at the same level as the fastball at the waist, he has a very short time to decide what to do. It ends up at the ankle, so this tunneling makes it likely he will swing and miss or not hit the ball solidly.
#2 FASTBALL AT KNEES ON SAME PATH AS FASTBALL AT ANKLES
See our blog post at this link for this example of two fastballs that follow the same path during the window of time in which the batter can evaluate them, but end up at different heights by the time they reach home plate.
